"Start by doing what’s necessary; then do what’s possible; and suddenly you are doing the impossible." St. Francis of Assisi

Motivated by our Gospel call and Francis' example, Campus Ministry animates and nurtures the faith life of the school community through programs that allow students to develop their ministerial and leadership skills.  Some of the programs that teach our students to care for our neighbors in need are listed below.  Please consider sponsoring a Midnight Run, assisting with the travel expenses for a Franciscan Immersion Experience, or sponsor a tuition or food for our twin school in Kenya.  Together we might be able to do the impossible.

Midnight & Breakfast Runs

Faculty, staff, students, and parents conduct regular collections of clothing, food, hygiene products, and blankets to distribute to people living on the streets in our City.  We conduct approximately (5) runs during the school year and more during the summer service academy.  A sponsorship of $25.00 pays for 5 meal bags; $300.00 can help pay our transportation costs for one of our outreach nights to assist homeless people.

Franciscan Immersion Experiences

Franciscan Immersions provide sophomore, junior, and senior students the opportunity to have powerful experiences of service, communal living, prayer and learning about social justice.  Participants serve locally in NYC, Camden, NJ and Lima, Peru to work with the most vulnerable populations.

Overnight Retreats

A new overnight retreat has been developed for juniors.  The Journeys retreat takes place in Garrison, NY at the beautiful Capuchin Youth and Family Ministries retreat center.  This weekend retreat cost $150.00 per person.  Consider sponsoring a student scholarship to allow juniors this spiritual experience.

Presentation Soup Kitchen

Almost every Thursday, a team of six students and an SFP chaperone help prepare and serve meals to 100-150 people at the soup kitchen held at Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary Parish in Jamaica, Queens.  The simple meal provides economically poor neighbors free food and some sense of community when finances are tight.  Each semester, SFP sponsors a “special dinner” as a treat for the guests.  A $500.00 donation can pay for food and dessert items for all the guests.

St. Francis Secondary School, Lare, Kenya

Founded by the same religious congregation of Franciscan Brothers in Ireland, St. Francis Prep and St. Francis, Lare share a common mission of transforming young people’s lives through education.  Over the last six years, SFP families and students have rallied to raise funds to purchase: (60) bicycles for students who had to walk over (5) miles to and from school each day; a new photocopy machine; a new laptop and digital camera to begin an electronic exchange program; and, food and school fees for orphaned students.  Last year, our donations paid for new desks and chairs for newly enrolled students.  Please consider donating $25.00 for a new desk or $25.00 for a new chair.
